BRINGING CHARACTERS TO LIFE, THROUGH MOVEMENT
THEATRE ROYAL PEOPLE'S COMPANY
"During Citizen Charlie brought her presence and experience as a dancer and maker to the whole cast. She embodied the ensemble approach of sharing generously and committing artistically and open heartedly to the process. She did this through choreographing sections of the show, and working with the other performers to shape the scenes.’
4TH - 6TH JULY 2019
DIRECTOR: LUCY HIRST
ACTOR / PERFORMER: CHARLIE RANKEN
PERFORMANCES: THE DRUM, THEATRE ROYAL, PLYMOUTH
Citizen was an extraordinary project where 20 citizens of Plymouth came together to create a production, made from their personal stories. It was called a 'LIVING breathing portrait of PLYMOUTH.' (TRP leaflet 2019) Lucy Hirst and Jacob Woods pieced together a script from rehearsals resulting in a vibrant, gallery of colour and strength in The Drum. Their was a huge amount of cues, transitions, moving focus quickly and smoothly to another part of the play's journey. It was fun, thought provoking and expressed the town we lived in to the best of our abilitiy. It is now considered a blue print that other towns could use to create their own productions of Citizen.
